I looked for the "big white bird" without success both yesterday and
today. I work just across the street from where the sighting took
place. Yes, the aviary keeper is in Newcastle - just to the NE of this
sight. With the number of "exotics" that I've seen in the neighborhood
over the past several years (storks, cranes, pigeons, and even a hoopoe)
I'd say he has a real problem with keeping his doors closed. I think
Greg Toffic is right on with the ID, but if I remember correctly the
earlier escaped birds were not described as banded and this one is - and
hadn't the previous birds been reported in the Portland area a couple of
months back? Maybe its mom or dad. I've always know the south end of
Lake Washington was a "trap" for birds - but this is ridiculous.
