Hi All
Today I headed up along the Lardeau River to see what was being attracted by
the spawning kokanee. A trip that starts with a view of a very rotund,
healthy Grizzly bounding through the river promises a good day. For those of
you that know the river, the main action was north of Howser to a point a
few kilometers south of Gerrard. In this stretch, I spotted 16 BALD EAGLES,
about half in definitive plumage. The COMMON MERGANSERS were indeed common
and quite skittish. We had the usual flavors of gulls, but the numbers were
amazing, especially 850 CALIFORNIA GULLS. There were also an amazing number
of AMERICAN DIPPERS, at least one or more at every stop. The final treat was
a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Howser.
And terrific fall weather to top of a great and amazing morning.
