Subject: Kent Ponds (Green R. Natural Resources Area)

Jim Ganley and I visited the new Kent Ponds on Thurs. for about 1-1/2 hrs. We
went to the middle and north towers. Had a total of 27 species.
Horned Grebe
Western Grebe
Double-crested Cormorant
Ruddy Duck
Canada Goose - >500
American Wigeon
Mallard
Ring-necked Duck
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Common Merganser
Great Blue Heron
Northern Harrier - it had a yellow tag on the left wing
Red-tailed Hawk
American Kestrel
American Coot
Greater Yellowlegs - 10-15
Killdeer
Ring-billed Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Short-eared Owl - it flushed from grass by trail, flew around a while and
landed in top
of a tall snag where it stayed for rest of time we
were there.
Belted Kingfisher - male
Northern Flicker
American Crow
European Starling
Marsh Wren
Western Meadowlark - at least two in tall grass north of north tower.

We also stopped at Clay St. marsh and saw the following additional species:
15 Common Snipe
Green-winged Teal
Red-winged Blackbird
