_Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast_, by Pojar and MacKinnon, list both
Juniperus communis (common juniper) and J. scorpularum as occuring in the
Puget Sound region, with common juniper being the more common. J.c. occurs
in "Dry, open woods, gravelly ridges, outcrops, muskeg and open rocky
slopes; from lowland bogs to subalpine ridges and alpine tundra." J.s. "is
an uncomon shrubby tree, found in dry, rocky habitats in the Strait of
Goergia-Puget Sound area."
