Before tonights update I would like to remind birders that this Thursday is
Birder's Night. Our new venue for this years meeting is St. Stephen's
United Church Hall, 7025 Granville which is on the west side of Granville
at 52nd. Enter the hall from the church parking lot. The meeting starts at
7:30 and all are welcome. Our guest speaker will be Rob Butler on The
Plight of the Great Blue Heron".

Information on the XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD follows the sightings.

There were no sightings for today Monday August 31st.

Sunday, August 30th

A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was sighted at Canfor Point in trees past the end of
the road. A HORNED LARK was observed on the Iona Jetty

Five GREEN HERON and an OSPREY were reported near 106th and Clarke in
Surrey.

Saturday, August 29th

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was observed on a hike up the Lion's.

>From the Iona Jetty came a report of 2 WANDERING TATTLER, 3 BLACK
TURNSTONE, 3 PARASITIC JAEGERS, a BRANT, and a possible 12 ANCIENT MURRELTS
in flight past the end of the Jetty.

At Nicomecl Slough were a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, and a
GREEN HERON.

An OSPREY was seen from the Tsawwassen Jetty.

Friday, August 28th

A male TUFTED DUCK was reported from the outer pond at Iona. From the inner
pond were 7 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and an OSPREY was seen over the Fraser
River.

At Blackie Spit were an OSPREY, a WHIMBREL, and a COOPER'S HAWK.

Thursday, August 27th

TWO GREEN HERONS have been frequenting the display pond at Ambleside for
several days.

The NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was observed on the island in the outer pond at
Iona. Also present on the inner ponds was a STILT SANDPIPER.

Wednesday, August 26th

An EASTERN PHOEBE was discovered along Sea Island's Grover Rd. in the 2nd
group of trees past the dike gate parking area west of the Arthur Laing
Bridge.

A CASSIN'S AUKLET was sighted off Crescent Beach offshore from the second
house south of the foot of Sullivan. It is far enough offshore that a scope
is required. At nearby Blackie Spit were a LONG-BILLED CURLEW and an
immature FRANKLIN'S GULL.

In front of the large house between 88th & 96th on Boundary Bay were a
WESTERN GULL, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and 2 STILT SANDPIPERS.

Seen at Trinity Western Univ. were 3 GREEN HERON, 2 adlts & a juv.

Recent Vancouver locations for CRESTED MYNAS are Burrard & 2nd, Wylie &
2nd, Hudson and Marine and the south end of the Cambie St. Bridge

The female XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen daily in Gibsons
although less frequently. Birders must phone ahead to arrange a time to
visit. Please call Lynn between 8:00 & 8:30 AM, Monday to Saturday at
604-886-3338. At other times if you wish to leave your number, Lynn will
return your call collect. There will be no Sunday calls or visits accepted
