The CEWA have really started gathering in big flocks the past week in the Lake
Hills Greenbelt, apparently getting ready to migrate. A week ago there were
about 40, two days later 100 and just today I would guess 3-400. One big
flock of about 200 in trees at east end of Larsen Lake. They periodically
almost all fly off about 100 yards and then come back. There are a number of
smaller flocks and individuals in the area.

Also the first American Wigeon showed up at Larsen Lake with 5 this morning.
American Coots are starting to come back. Where do all the coots in the
Seattle area go during the summer? Do they stay on the west side of the
mountains?

Highlights in my backyard were a second brood of California Quail. Three
adults showed up with 15 very young birds, couldn't have been more than a few
days old. Then this morning a Red-breasted Sapsucker showed up. We regularly
get Downy and Pileated Woodpeckers, but a RBSA only rarely.
