Hi Tweets,

Just a quick note to alert you to TWO Blackpoll Warblers
found during the WOS field trip to the Vantage area and points
East. The first bird was seen at Wanapum Dam State Park around
10 AM of Sept 1. It was seen near the caretaker's (?) house just
to the left of the entry road. Please be quiet if birding around
the house and try not to get the resident dog barking - the
fellow living there is a deputy who works nights and would be
trying to get some shut-eye while you're skulking through the
shrubbery.
The bird seen here was fairly dull yellow underneath
with moderate streaking on the flanks and upper breast. The
wingbars are very bold white and the eyeline is quite prominent.
Take care to distinguish it from the numerous Yellow-rumps
present. My description is quite brief but the bird WAS well
seen by Steve Mlodinow who first found it and Kevin Aanerud
who was leading the trip. Ben Feltner and I got briefer looks
at it. There was also a Red-eyed Vireo in the trees around the
picnic area (with the more numerous Warbling Vireos).
The second Blackpoll was a brighter plumaged bird which
was seen around 4:30 PM in the Wahluke Slope Wildlife Area.
Delorme Atlas page 53, C-5 (approx. Sect 19 in the SE corner
of the Grant/Franklin County border) Hopefully better directions
to that are will be on the BirdBox soon, as Kevin and Steve
noted directions as we left the area.
By the way I'm on digest mode so if you e-mail any
questions I won't get them until Wednesday unless you mail them
directly to me rather than to Tweeters.
