Not much activity on the beach or along the shoreline other than the
expected gulls and feral Mallards. On the bluff just north of the Beach
Park, there was a prolonged (15 min or so) interaction between crows and a
Sharp-shinned hawk. This was an immature bird, and probably a female,
judging from her comparative size with her crow tormentors. She reversed
the situation by aggressively chasing, grappling with, and raking the
backs of the teasing crows. After a few episodes of this, the crows left
her alone in peace. During this noisy mini-war, the local Band-tailed
pigeons were flying to and fro between their favorite roosting trees,
which happened to border the crow-hawk festivities.

What a lovely, lazy, early fall Sept Sunday!
Cheers,
