Some new birds for the season this morning at the Ballard locks. An imm.
Accipiter was sitting on a piling on the tie-off wall just east of the
railroad bridge, it seemed to be on the small side, but I won't guess
whether it was a Coopers or a Sharpie. Not too far away a single peep
flew across the canal, and a common tern was fishing near the spillway. I
was able to ID 3 individual Belted Kingfishers, An adult male, adult
female and an imm., male I think. There could have been more. Quite a
few Mew and Bonaparte's Gulls near the spillway, one California Gull and
the usual GW Gulls. Lots of Steller's Jays too. I counted 13 flying south
to north over the canal in the space of an hour. Two Great Blue Herons.
crows, starlings, etc. but no geese.
