September 8, 1998, Tuesday, 5:16 p.m. Hi, this is Ed Swan at (206)
725-5013. There were 10 WHITE PELICANS at the bend in the Columbia
River behind Wells Dam on Monday, the 7th.

September 8, 1998, Tuesday, 8:34 p.m. Hello, this is Scott Atkins
reporting for Tuesday, September 8th from Skagit County. Today I had 9
and possibly 10 WARBLER species between Lake McMurray and the Skagit
Wildlife Management Area. The highlight was a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH
along the main dike trail at the Skagit WMA. Then I had a probable
female BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER at the south end of Lake McMurray.
There's a trail that runs south from Highway 9, at the south end of the
lake, just about opposite Camp Brotherhood. The bird was in a large
mixed flock of VIREOS and WARBLERS. There's a few EMPIDS and TANAGERS
in there as well about a 100 yards south of Highway 9. I didn't quite
have all the details on the bird and it was seen only briefly. Also at
the Jensen Access on the plowed field immediately west, an AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVER and a HORNED LARK. Lots of PIPITS there. At Skagit
Wildlife Management Area, 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS and several new
arrivals: HERMIT THRUSH, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and several JUNCOS.
That's all. Bye-bye.

September 9, 1998, Wednesday, 6:58 a.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow.
On my way back from Coos Bay, Oregon yesterday, I stopped off at
Ridgefield. At the Carter Unit there were 10 GREAT EGRETS and a PURPLE
MARTIN, and at the River Unit, there was a group of 230 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS. Down in Oregon there wasn't a whole lot going on. There's
a seventh, or what would be the seventh record of LITTLE GULLS showed up
in Lake County, Oregon. On the coast we saw 2 LARK SPARROWS down by
Cape Blanco and 33 ELEGANT TERNS present at Gold Beach. But that's
about it. Good luck and good birding.

September 9, 1998, Wednesday, 7:31 a.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette,
(206) 365-2083. On Tuesday afternoon, September 8th, an adult ROSS'
GOOSE was seen with many CANADA GEESE on a turf farm between Woodinville
and Redmond in King County. The turf farm is between N.E. 145th Street
and N.E. 124th Street, and it's just west of the Sammamish River. I
viewed the bird from the Sammamish River Trail which runs along the east
side of the Sammamish River in this area. Good bye.
