While doing streamwork in the lower reaches of the Greenwater River
today, got good looks at a few species, including both Black and Vaux's
Swifts (lots) Belted Kingfisher (1), Stellar's Jay (2), American Dipper
(5), Raven (4) and quick look at what 2 of us independently identified
as a Water Pipit. Water Pipit would be a first for us up in that area.
Also a possible Northern Goshawk. Habitat would be suitable for
Goshawk, there are several confirmed birds up in and around there, and
all markings, etc. did seem to indicate it was a Goshawk. However, must
admit, I am forced to leave spotting scope, binoculars, etc. in car
while doing field work, otherwise I tend to get caught up in
birdwatching at the expense of the other. Okay, so I'm hopeless!

Also, kind of fun, gathering of 7 elk. Beautiful day, mid-sixties,
light breeze, clear skies.
