I walked in Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland where I saw a Lewis'
Woodpecker this morning! A first for me, but I'm pretty confident in my ID.
Glossy greenish-black back, pinkish-red belly, suggestion of a whitish band
around the neck, but I didn't see a red facial mask. Was in a snag with a
couple Flickers, so I could compare and see it was slightly smaller. Was
definitely a woodpecker, but was behaving like a flycatcher, which confused
me until I read in my guide they also snag insects out of the air!

It was in a snag between the 2 boardwalks at the far west end of the park.
This is where I also saw the Virginia Rail, the Green Heron and the Wood
Ducks.

I've never heard anyone mention Lewis' around here. Is this a rarity?

Here's what I saw this morning between 7:30 and 10 am. (31 species)
