At a dinner tonight, a table companion asked a question that I could not
answer: he saw a group of birds on Orcas Island on the 18th which he
thought were cranes. His father-in-law (who did not see the birds)
thought that this was at least unlikely.

I said that I would relay his question as to the likely identification of
the birds that he saw -- which he reported were on the shore.
