Yesterday afternoon at around 3:30 I walked Coulon Park in Renton where
I had two unusual sightings - a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and an ELEGANT
TERN.

The nuthatch was working a willow tree near the boardwalk on the north
end of the park when I first spotted him and he later flew to a large
cottonwood near the railroad tracks. Positive ID, a bird I grew up
with.

The tern was with 4 COMMON TERNS at the extreme SW corner of the park
adjacent to the Boeing plant. All of these birds were flying back and
forth between the small island at this location and the mouth of the
Cedar River. The ELEGANT was slightly larger than the COMMONS with a
distinctive all orange bill and black cap with "ruffles". I was able to
observe the bird at about 50 ft. with good bino's and am quite confident
of the ID.
