September 13, 1998, Sunday, 10:47 p.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette
(206) 365-2083. I went camping in the Cascades in southeast King
County, the last two days, the 12th and 13th. At the large burn along
Forest Service Road 7038 at Section 15, were 13 HORNED LARKS, 10
AMERICAN PIPITS, 5 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 1 GOLDEN
EAGLE, 1 TURKEY VULTURE, as well as both CASSIN'S and PURPLE FINCHES at
Township 19 North, Range 11 East, Section 15, and also a CANYON WREN
was seen at Kelly Butte on the 12th. Kelly Butte can be reached by a
short spur from Forest Service Road 7030. The bird was seen at the
cliffs above the trailhead at the end of the short spur. Kelly Butte is
on the DeLorme Atlas, page 65, C-5. Also, road signs can be lacking in
the area, so be sure to carry a White River District map with you, and
also inquire about road closures to the White River ranger station at
(360) 825-6585. That's all for now.

September 13, 1998, Sunday, 3:20 p.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow.
Today, at the Everett Sewage Ponds, there were 2 FRANKLIN'S GULLS, BONYS
(BONAPARTES) remained relatively scare there with only 100-200 birds.
Only about ten percent normal. That's about it. Good luck and good
birding.

September 13, 1998, Sunday, 3:11 p.m. Hi, this is Martha Taylor (206)
523-4677. This morning at Montlake Fill, there were 2 AMERICAN PIPITS
and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR as well as some WOOD DUCKS, VAUX'S SWIFTS, and a
few others.

September 12, 1998, Saturday, 8:51 p.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow.
Today, Casey Beechel(?) and I went up to the Vancouver area and then
birded Everett on the way back. At Iona Island, there was a good
passerine movement, but nothing unusual. Among the shorebirds there,
were 9 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. Also, overhead
were 2 BANK SWALLOWS. Along Boundary Bay at the foot of 96th, in a
flock of 350 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were 4 RED KNOTS and an AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVER. In Everett, there were 5 RED KNOTS. These birds were in
the mud flats just north of the public boat launch. These mud flats are
viewable from Marine View Drive. That's just north of 10th. If one
continues along Marine View Drive, heading north from 10th, there's an
opportunity to turn off the road to the left just before Marine View
Drive goes into a large sweeping bridge. In the mudflats in this area
was a FRANKLIN'S GULL. That's it. Good luck and good birding.
