While reading the comments about the different crows, I was reminded of
the crows I observed on and near Cape Cod Bay. There were different
sizes ( and some were referred to as Fish Crows) and there was
certainly a difference in behavior. The seagulls and crows here ( that I
have watched ) seem to share habitat whereas on the Cape, where I lived
for a number of years, that wasn't standard operating proceedure. There
was an overlap that was tolerated but I always had the feeling this was
a tentative arrangement. Crows here are much more likely to 'get in
close' and feed closer to people. In New England it is the road kill
that seems to be their main source of food (though I am certainly no
expert). I am happy about being able to get to know the crows in my
neighborhood but am really curious about why they behave so differently
from what I am use to.
