I suspect that the alleged gannet is actually the snow
goose/blue goose intergrade that has been seen sporadically but
continuously along the Everett waterfront since last year. Steve
Mlodinow saw this bird as recently as last weekend. Another
possibility, of course, is either of the two white storks that escaped
from a local aviculturist this summer. However, todays Portland RBA
speaks of a white stork seen yesterday in Oregon, and refers to a
separate bird seen in Portland, so maybe the birds seen earlier in
Washington are now in Oregon. My vote is for the snow/blue goose. BUT,
this should not deter anyone from looking. I'd be thrilled to see a
gannet in Washington.
