I stopped at the Steigerwald Lake Refuge, near Washougal, in
Clark County, on my way home from work this evening. At the Washougal
Sewage lagoons there were two RING-NECKED DUCKS with the seven LESSER
SCAUP that had been there all summer, also present were two CANVASBACKS.
On the Refuge proper I saw one GREAT EGRET, two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE (one was of the "Tule" form), an immature BALD EAGLE, and several
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS. At home in western Skamania County, EVENING
GROSBEAKS and WESTERN TANAGERS were flocking to the remaining berries in
the Cascara trees.
