Columbia Estuary Report 9/20/98

BOBOLINK was seen again at SJCR on Friday.

Results of the 1998 Fall NAMC for Clatsop Co. are in. 114 species
were seen overall. A good movement of passerines including the first
HERMIT THRUSH and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS of the fall, seven species
migrating warblers, a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER and a flock of at
least 50 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS.

The final count on SOOTY SHEARWATERS was 56190 individuals (Shearwaters
were reported up river all the way to Hammond earlier in the week.)
A COMMON TERN was at parking lot D of Ft Stevens. 7100 scoters, split
about evenly between SURF and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER were at the Cove
in Seaside. 515 WESTERN GREBES were mixed in with the Scoter flocks.

BROWN PELICANS numbers are on the wane. Duck and shorebird numbers
were extremely low.
