Birders,
Today, Sunday, Sept 20, I found a male BLACK-THROATED
BLUE WARBLER in Richland WA (Benton County) on
Bateman Island which is near the Yakima River Delta &
is on the north end of Columbia Park. It was seen off & on
from 11:10am until almost 2 pm. It was also seen by
Judy Stevens & Laurie Ness.

Directions: Walk across the causeway, & keep going north,
after about 100 steps you come to a garbage can,
after another 100 steps there is a fork in the trail to the right,
ignore it. About 300 more steps is the spot. I put 4 feet of red
flagging there & also put lots of corn in the trail (for sparrows).
There is a large broken down Russian Olive tree with brown leaves
on the right just south of the spot.
It prefers a large tree about 30 feet off the trail to the right. I think
it is a Mulberry. The area is real dense & the bird spends most
of the time hidden, but listen for its chip note. That's how I found it.

I guess a RBA deserves some details. Let's see:
A dark Blue Warbler with black throat, white underparts
& a white spot in primaries. About covers it.

Good Birding
