Saturday, September 19
----------------------
At Viaduct Flats off Interurban Road in Saanich was a single REDHEAD, as
well as a Lincoln's Sparrow, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, an immature SORA and
a Green Heron.

At the foot of Bowker Avenue in Oak Bay was the first EURASIAN WIDGEON
reported from the fall migration.

Many Surfbirds and Black-bellied Plovers were still at Bowker Avenue and
1 or 2 RED KNOTS present there until at least September 18th but were
not reported September 19th.

On Mt. Tolmie in Saanich were 2 AMERICAN KESTRELS, 2 or more BAND-TAILED
PIGEONS, a SWAINSON'S THRUSH and a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER.

On the southwest coast of Vancouver Island, 50 or more RED CROSSBILLS
were in French Beach Provincial Park.

A WESTERN GREBE, the first reported for the fall, was off Jordan River.

Up to 4 Parasitic Jaegers continue at Cattle Point in Oak Bay.

An AMERICAN KESTREL was just east of the gravel quarry on Metchosin
Road.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was over Rocky Point in Metchosin.


Friday, September 18
--------------------
A BARRED OWL was being harassed by a COOPER'S HAWK in the 1200 block of
Oliver Street in South Oak Bay.

A MARBLED GODWIT was with Whimbrels off the foot of Lansdowne Road in
Oak Bay.

70 Turkey Vultures and 6 Greater White-fronted Geese were over Rocky
Point in Metchosin.

Scattered Sooty Shearwaters were off Race Rocks at the southern tip of
Vancouver Island.

Recent sightings of Pelagic species off the west coast of Vancouver
Island include a MURPHY'S PETREL September 8th, well out into the ocean,
and a SOUTHERN POLAR SKUA on September 3, and that was well out as well.

Many NORTHERN FULMARS at Laparuse Banks on September 17.

**REMINDERS**
Birders' night is this Wednesday, September 23 in Room 159 of the Begbie
Building at the University of Victoria. The topic is birding Newfoundland.

On October 10 or possibly October 11, there will be a pelagic trip out
of Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Those interested
