Sorry I couldn't send this off before now, but Saturday morning at the
Montlake Fill, I saw a merlin. It appeared to be a female, but I don't
have enough experience with sorting them from first year birds to say
conclusively. Not much at the big pond (thanks for everyone's help, I
was there before, and I didn't even know it!), just a couple of Mallards.
I ran into a couple of other people birdwatching about 11, but I
couldn't find them later to tell them about the Merlin. (Are they on the
list?)

While at the fill, I also ran into what appeared to be a female pheasant
(She ran into tall grass really fast and I only saw her for a fraction of
a second). There were also several young pheasants. Are they common at
the fill? The only other place I have had much success finding them with
regularity is Discovery Park.
