My brother and I hiked a ten mile loop trail from the Windy Ridge parking
lot on the NE side of Mt. St. Helens on Sunday 9/20/98. This area ranges
from about 4000 - 5000 feet and is in the "blast zone". The highlight was a
immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK soaring with a COOPER'S HAWK. Seeing the birds
"dogfighting" and soaring together made for a nice comparison of size, tail
shape, and wing shape. A good variety of raptors were moving through the
area.

MERLIN - 1 or 2
PRAIRIE FALCON - 1
RED-TAILED HAWK - 2
