On Saturday the 19th, this world lost Leo Bustad, a gentle, intelligent and
humorous man, native of Stanwood, better known by most for his academic
achievements and as Dean Emeritus of the WSU School of Veterinary Medicine,
but known by me as an avid birder. We made may trips through the Palouse,
usually following the same route, with Leo diligently recording all birds
seen. In his younger years, as an academic world traveler he always took
along his binoculars and managed some time out with the birds.

We are better off for Leo having been with us.
