The Port Townsend Marine Science Center (a non-profit educational
organization at Fort Worden State Park) has scheduled our fifth season of
fall of boat tours around Protection Island on six Saturdays: October 10,
17, 24, & 31 and Nov. 7 & 28 and one Thursday, Dec. 31st (New Year's Eve)
These very special cruises, extremely popular with birders, have also
generated increased interest among non-birders looking for a natural
science experience. Home to breeding and flyway populations of numerous
bird species, this Washington Coastal Refuge, off-limits to the public,
also plays host to numerous marine mammals. Over seventy bird species and
seven mammal species, including whales and an elephant seal, have been
spotted.

The "GLACIER SPIRIT", a well appointed and comfortable 65 ft. motor yacht,
will depart Pt. Hudson Marina in downtown Port Townsend at 1:00 pm to
explore the biological and historic dimensions of this Washington Coastal
Refuge.

The PTMSC offers these three hour trips, part of our educational program
for all ages, to enable citizens to gain a better understanding of the
marine ecosystems and natural science interrelationships which abound in
these waters.

All trips include an additional stop at Kilisut Harbor/Mystery Bay area
(between Marrowstone & Indian Islands) or Smith Island. On-board
naturalists, familiar with the island and the waters around the Quimper
Peninsula, provide excellent commentary on local birds, mammals, geology
and weather. Tickets are $35 per person ($30 for PTMSC members, Audubon
Society or Washington Ornithological Society members).

Either eMail ptmsc at olympus.net or phone (360) 385-5582 to reserve a spot or
obtain additional info. Rates for children & groups are available.
