This morning at the locks there were maybe 10 small terns, Arctic, I
think, the bill was red to the tip with no sign of black. I didn't have
my book with me... Anyway, not only were they perching on the cable in
front of the spillway, 20 feet or so from the sidewalk they were flying a
foot or two from my face. They seemed unfazed by people. At one point
there were four terns, fourteen Bonapartes, six Mew Gulls, one California
Gull and a Glaucous winged Gull all perched on the cable. I wish my
camera worked. I'll try to go back this afternoon and take my book so I
can get a better ID on the terns.
