I am a little slow in posting this, but last Sunday, 9/20/98, we spent an
enjoyable day birding some of the area SE of Dayton, WA, on Hatley Gulch
Rd., DeLorme pg. 42, T9N:R39E:Sl.
Included in what we saw were:
3 golden eagles
l rough-legged hawk (the first for the season for me)
l cooper's hawk (we should have had a camera with us for this one)
2 northern harriers
4 red-tailed hawks, one of them was very light in color
20 kestrels, we had 4 of them in view at one time
1 spotted towhee
12 American pipits on a telephone wire plus 4 more on the ground
nearby
12 western blue birds
at least 4 yellow-rumped warblers
at least 50 white-crowned sparrows
6 chukars flew over our vehicle
at least 50 dark-eyed juncos
12 northern flickers
6 ravens
6 California quail
at least 10 black-billed magpies
6 mourning doves
6 American robins
The pipits perched on the wire were the biggest surprise to us. We had
never seen them do that before.
And I had not realized that the blue birds hung around this late in the
season.
