September 21, 1998, Monday, 2:09 p.m. Hi, this is Scott Hoskin (206)
789-8990. This morning, Monday, at Discovery Park I was able to
relocate the BLUE JAY found by Alan Knue on Sunday. It's with a flock
of 25-30 STELLAR JAYS. I found it down near the lighthouse in the
poplar trees. It's actually right next to the lighthouse. From there
the entire flock moved southeast and they seemed to be covering the
entire park. Also on Sunday at Discovery Park while looking for the
BLUE JAY, I saw 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER near the restrooms in the same area
where Alan originally saw the BLUE JAY. That's about it. Good luck.

September 21, 1998, Monday, 8:48 p.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow.
Today, Skagit headquarters to Whidbey Island loop once again. Today the
headquarters area was much slower than it was two days ago. At Rosario
Head, however, in Skagit County, there were 2 ANCIENT MURRELETS, 5
HORNED LARKS, and an elephant seal. And at Swantown, opposite Swantown
Lake looking out into the straits, there was a large flock of feeding
gulls including 2 SOOTY SHEARWATERS that came close enough for specific
identification, 2 adult PARASITIC and 1 juvenile PARASITIC JAEGER. At
Crockett Lake in the northeast corner, there was about 15 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and in the southeast corner there was one BAIRD'S SANDPIPER.

September 22, 1998, Tuesday, 1:54 p.m. Hi, this is Tom Aversa (206)
782-7342. A report from Montlake Fill this morning. Had decent numbers
of migrants there still, particularly sparrows. Good numbers of
species. Had one bird that was a SPIZELLA. It was definitely either
CLAY-COLORED or BREWERS, not totally positive. It looked a lot more
like BREWER'S. If somebody wanted to look for it, it's on the west side
of the fill near that new natural habitat thing that they're creating
near the parking lot. So good luck if you want to go over there.

September 22, 1998, Tuesday, 9:56 p.m. Paul Hicks here, (360) 264-2462,
reporting on the Mud Bay area near Olympia. Tuesday morning and evening
near high tide there was a WILLET at Perry Creek which is just beyond
the Mud Bay exit off 101 on Madrona Beach Drive, running parallel to the
freeway there, and there were about 50 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Did not find
the LESSER YELLOWLEGS or the FRANKLIN'S GULL today.

September 23, 1998, Wednesday, 6:00 a.m. Hello, this is Dave Beaudette
(206) 365-2083. On September 22 I hiked up the Red Mountain trail north
of Snoqualmie Pass. On the open, south-facing slopes of Red Mountain
and the ridge that runs west of Red Mountain, was a single PRAIRIE
FALCON. The bird was observed for over a half hour hunting those
slopes. Catch you later. Bye.

September 23, 1998, Wednesday, 7:16 a.m. Hi, this is Neil Komedal (206)
723-4444. I was out fishing yesterday, that's Tuesday the 22nd of
September, and I saw at Duwamish Head light I saw a PARASITIC JAEGER
heading towards the city at about, oh, at 10:00. And then later at the
four-mile rock, I saw probably the same birds heading towards Discovery
Park at about 1:00. So I thought I'd turn it in. Thanks. Bye.

September 23, 1998, Wednesday, 9:34 a.m. Hi, this is Scott Atkinson.
Off the ferry yesterday I had about 1,000 CALIFORNIA GULLS off of
Kingston in the morning and I had 6 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES there in the
evening. And on the Edmonds side of that same run, that was at 5:10, I
had a CASSIN'S AUKLET at point blank range off the bow of the vessel. I
had an unidentified dark JAEGER species and I had 4 Dall's Porpoise. On
Thursday of last week I had 3 light-phased PARASITIC JAEGERS off the
Kingston-Edmonds run in the evening and on Wednesday morning, on the
Seattle-Winslow run in the morning, I had a possible light-phased
POMARINE near Winslow. Finally, near 145th and I-5 this morning, I had
my first hybrid FLICKER. That's all.
