Howdy, again, Tweeters.
A little while ago, I wrote that you can see an
on-line version of the USGS's report "Washington's
Wetland Resources," 1996, at
<http://wwwdwatcm.wr.usgs.gov/reports/wetlands>.
Let me mention a few of the things you'll find in
the report--
*Before the settlers showed up, Washington's wetlands
took up anywhere from 1.17 to 1.53 million acres. (The
estimates vary with the varying assumptions applied to
the historical information.)
*By the end of the 1980s, Washington had 939,000 acres
of wetlands.
*From 700 to 2,000 acres of the state's wetlands are
vanishing each year.
*The report contains maps showing the current distribution
of 5 kinds of wetlands in the state.
*It also contains a useful summary of government and private
wetlands activities in the state.
