For starters, try Wetlands of Washington - A Resource Characterization &
Risk Assessment by Douglas Canning. I seem to recall that is a
Department of Ecology publication. I don't have this report in front of
me, but I seem to recall there is some information in there that would
provide you a starting point. I seem to recall the report estimated
that approximately 50% of the freshwater wetlands have been lost overall
within the State of Washington since mid 1850's. In Southern Pierce
County, I know that the figure is much higher, about 82% (in 1990).

Also, in the process of surveying some of the Donation Act land claims,
some of the original Dept. of Interior lithographs actual have
wetlands/surface water bodies delineated on them. Good Luck.
