LazerQuick has a service to scan slides and negatives at high resolution
on to CD's. You can get 100 images to a CD at about $.70/slide.

I bought a Polaroid Scanner last summer at about $700.00 with which I
can scan slides and negative at up to just short of 2000dpi I keep scanned
images on zip disks stored as high resolution jpeg's (about 200k each).
