SABINE'S GULL
FRANKLIN'S GULL

***RARE BIRD ALERT***
On September 27, an adult SABINE'S GULL was seen from Clover Point in
Victoria. Although up to 1.5 miles off shore it was seen clearly and
remained in the area for some time. Updates would be appreciated.

An immature FRANKLIN'S GULL was seen on the rocks at the foot of Lansdowne
Road in Oak Bay and later at Cattle Point in Oak Bay.

Also at the foot of Lansdowne were some Marbled Godwits still there,
Short-billed Dowitcher and offshore 3 light-phase adult Parasitic Jaegers.

On the morning of September 27, up to 5 Parasitic Jaegers, including the 3
light-phase birds and 2 dark-phase or immature birds were seen from Cadboro
View Road off Seaview Road in the Ten Mile Point area of Saanich. These
birds were on the water close offshore at that point.

A Red Knot was on the rocks at the foot of Bowker Avenue in Bay.

5 Pectoral Sandpipers and 3 Least Sandpipers were at Viaduct Flats in
Saanich. Also there were American Pipits, Lincoln's Sparrows and American
Goldfinches among other birds.

A Northern Shrike was at Gordon Point Road in Saanich.

2 Whimbrels were just west of Cattle Point in Oak Bay.

3 Lapland Longspurs were behind the orange fence at the top of Macauley
Point Park in Esquimalt.

A Barred Owl was calling on Willis Point Road southeast of Durrance Lake.


Saturday, September 26

A Northern Pygmy Owl was calling on the Aylard Farm Road near East Sooke Park.

A Northern Shrike, Northern Harrier and American Kestrel were at Island
View Beach.

2 White-throated Sparrows were at Taylor Beach in Metchosin.

On the lower mainland were a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper at the Iona Island
Settling Ponds and an American Avocet was at the Reifel Migratory Bird
Sanctuary.
