This evening, I checked the mudflats south of the Vancouver Lake
Flushing Channel, there was a juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER among the
half dozen PECTORAL SANDPIPERS there. Also on the flats were two GREATER
YELLOWLEGS and about a dozen KILLDEER. At Post Office Lake at the end of
Lower River Road two male REDHEADS were in with a small flock of AMERICAN
WIGEON.
Vancouver Lake can be reached by taking exit 1-D from the I-5
Freeway and heading West. The Flushing Channel is 3.3 miles past the
traffic light at the intersection of 4th Plain Blvd. and Fruit Valley Rd.
At the parking lot go out the right side of the channel to the lake and
turn right, this shallow bay is excellent for shorebirds.
