Subject: Kingfisher Question

As Sandy mentioned in our last post, the male (Kingfisher)was following
the female (kingfisher). I assume he was following not chasing, becuase
he stayed the same distance behind her. They were flying in large
circles and going higher and higher. (they were not in a thermal becuase
they were continually flapping their wings.) This went on for about 10
minutes. I estimate they went up to about to 700 feet elevation and then
started back down and finally landed in the same tree.

Question:
Is this false courtship becuase of the daylight hours being about the
same as in the spring?
