Dear Tweeters,

By the end of this week all members should have received WOSNews 56, our
10th Anniversary issue. A sincere thank you to our editor, Scott
Richardson, for tracking down our organizational history, right down to
the signatures of our founders. You may especially enjoy the list of
bird and organizational highlights included.

If by chance your label says "Lapsed" on your membership and you're
quite certain you paid at the conference, please contact me. We are
aware that some members names did not get forwarded to the membership
chair, but we specifically sent WOS News anyways to make sure no member
was inadvertently left out.

CAPE TOWN AFRICA - PART II
On Monday, November 2, 1998, Dennis Paulson, Director of the
Slater Museum, has graciously consented to show his slides on his recent
trip to Cape Town, Africa. Dennis is always a delight to hear and his
wonderful slides make for a great evening of entertainment and thoughts
of how to get to Africa ourselves. Last year the room was packed, so
get there early.

Doors will open at approximately 6:45pm, with the program starting at
7:15pm at the Center for Urban Horticulture on the U of WA campus. This
is 15 minutes earlier than usual to give Dennis just a little bit more
time.

Since this notice will not make it into the WOS News for distribution in
time, please make a point of informing your birding colleagues who are
not on Tweeters. Non-members welcome.

At the October 5, 1998 membership meeting, Scott Richardson, will be
leading a discussion on citizen science and his current work with
waterbird monitoring. Looking for a way to put your data on your own
small plot of land (or water) to work - this program is the way to get
started.

Look forward to seeing you all soon,
WOS President
