Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday April 1. If you have anything to add call

The GYRFALCON continues to be seen at Brownsmead, east of Astoria. The
BLUE JAY is still around the Environmental Center in midtown Bend. The
male TUFTED DUCK is still consistently being seen around Bingen, but on
March 25 it, or another, was on the Oregon side of the river at East
Mayer State Park at Rowena.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in Brookings March 24.

CASPIAN TERNS returned to the Oregon coast during the week. BARN, CLIFF,
and ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS are now arriving, and many SAY'S PHOEBES
continue to be seen west of the Cascades.

OLDSQUAWS are still being seen at Brookings and Yaquina Bay, and
KITTIWAKES are still along the beaches. Two FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS and
an unidentifed jaeger were flying around the South Jetty of the Columbia
River last week-end. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Brownsmead March 28.

On March 29 a CLIFF SWALLOW, two CASPIAN TERNS, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE
were at Ridgefield NWR. Up to 250 SANDHILL CRANES are still being seen
along Lower River Road north of Vancouver. A GLAUCOUS GULL was at Swan
Island in midtown Portland March 30.

The BURROWING OWL that wintered east of Salem left during the week. On
March 26 an out of place SAGE SPARROW was at Detroit Flats in the
Cascades east of Salem.

The two wintering LONG-BILLED CURLEWS are still being seen along 7 Mile
Road near Boston Mill Road east of Lebanon. On March 25 a HARRIS'S
SPARROWS was at the railroad tracks along Grass Valley Road northwest of
Halsey.

Three LESSER YELLOWLEGS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir March 28. The two
wintering WHITE PELICANS are still in the reservoir area. Two MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRDS and a SAY'S PHOEBE were seen during the week near the trailhead
of Mt. Pisgah, southeast of Eugene. A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was at Cottage
Grove March 31.

On March 29 a HARRIS'S SPARROW was along Old Moody Road, south of the
mouth of the Deschutes River. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was near Sisters that
day. A flock of 10 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS was near Helix, north of
Pendleton March 25.

The burn along Burgess Road west of LaPine continues to attract
woodpeckers, including many BLACK-BACKEDS. Two THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS
were there last week-end.

Several LESSER YELLOWLEGS were reported from Malheur NWR during the week
as shorebirds and waterfowl begin arriving in numbers. Malheur Lake is
now very high and is flooding nearby farmlands.
