Like so many others lining up to leave town, I am planning an early May (2 - 11) visit to Anchorage and Homer in Alaska. I would appreciate any input from Tweeters regarding birding, helpful books or guides, the mosquito population or anything else in terms of "must see" or "avoid at all costs!".

Your post brought back memories of a real salesperson in a Chamber of Commerce someplace up the Alaska Highway. I had written to ask if there were many insects (I'm mildly allergic and don't want to get any worse from overexposure) and if so, when would they consider a visitor would have the easiest time of it ?

Well, somebody either read me wrong - or they read me right and decided to have a little fun. The answer I got back was along the lines of "Hey, we've got ALL KINDS OF BUGS ! COME ANYTIME AND ENJOY THEM ALL !!"
