Thanks for the note on swan status from Richard Johnson. Additionally I
want to state that the trumpeter is not yet recovered in the Tri-state
area or anywhere east of the Cascade Crest (outside of the Pacific Coast
Population). In fact, trumpeters in the Tri-State or Rocky Mountain
Population are very much on the borderline with the latest information
that has come to light. So, are they threatened, biologically the answer
may be yes, are they listed, no. Do we want them listed, NO. It is
easier to work with a recovery program with a species not on the list, as
long as there is cooperation between the private sector and government
agencies.

As more information emerges, it remains to be seen what side of the
line trumpeters in this important area will end up on. Know that they are
not considered recovered, nor really the success story some people want to
think. They are doing better than in the early 1900's, but presently may
once again be on the decline.
