Subject: Klickitat Co. Tufted Duck ...

I birded southern Klickitat County on Saturday (3 April) and observed the following birds of note:

-- the male TUFTED DUCK was at Rowland Lake (south of Hwy 14, mid-afternoon, in a large mixed flock of Ring-necked Ducks and Lesser Scaup.
-- Swainson's Hawk: three separate birds
-- Turkey Vulture: 13 in one roost at Maryhill SP, plus American Goldfinch - males in various stages of molt (no Lesser)
-- Osprey: on a nest at Chamberlain Lake
-- Herring Gull: on the river at Bingen
-- Lewis's Woodpecker and Western Bluebirds near Acorn Woodpecker (1 on granary tree) location
-- at Maryhill Museum: American Goldfinch (no Lesser), Varied Thrush (numerous), Say's Phoebe (1)
-- 2 immature Golden Eagles hunting together near John Day Dam
