Hi Tweets,

Forgive if you get this RBA twice; there may have been server problems when
I posted this last night. This one will be quik 'n dirty; I'll repost the
original this evening.

Yesterday, Sunday April 04, there was a CASSIN'S AUKLET Ptychoramphus
aleuticus, very rare in Vancouver BC (this will be sixth-only), in the
cruise-ship berth between the E side of Canada Place, the large convention
center at the N end of Howe Street in downtown Vancouver BC, and the SeaBus
Terminal. I located the bird originally at about 4.45 PM PDT; it was still
there over an hour later, seeming very comfortable. The bird was later
observed and confirmed by Michael Beck and Bev. Gordon, Ken Klimko and his
son Kris, and their friend, Jay Grewal.
A brownish-grey cast to the chest and brown primaries on the otherwise
overall slate-grey plumage indicates either a First-year bird or an adult
still in pre-Alternate molt. The white superior eye-crescent is very
conspicuous on this bird, but the pale base to the mandible is barely
visible even under high magnification at close range.
