This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

An AMERICAN BLACK DUCK is in the Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho /
Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington area. The bird was first seen
last Saturday, March 27 by Charles Swift at West Pond, the big levee
pond along the US 12 bypass around Lewiston. It was not relocated on
Sunday March 28, but Charles found it again today on West Pond. The
bird is very skittish and flew onto the Clearwater River. Charles
found it again on the confluence. By taking Washington 128 or Idaho
128 on the north side of the Snake or Clearwater, you can access a
small island on the river by the Mountain Fir wood chip company.
There's a very large pull-out right at the state line. Walk along the
fence line to the east end of the island. You should also check the
west end of the island, as a drake EURASIAN WIGEON was there today.
The black duck will probably be Idaho's fifth record. ID DeLorme 54,
A-1 and WA DeLorme 43, A-8.

Also in Clarkston at Swallows Park on March 28 was a first winter MEW
GULL. Dave Holick and I saw the bird near the swimming area.
Swallows Park is south of Clarkston along Washington 129. WA DeLorme
43, AB-8.

Near Othello, Adams County, Washington are lots of SANDHILL CRANES
according to Mike Denny. If you want to see them, try heading west of
Othello on Washington 26 about 12.5 miles to the ponds on the Adams
County / Grant County border. There were 1400 birds there last
Saturday. Also check along McKenny Road, which heads off of
Washington 26 about 2.5 miles west of Othello. At the McCain stink
ponds, about 7 miles north of Othello along McManamon Road were 7
DUNLIN. WA DeLorme 53, B-6-7.

A WHITE-THROATD SPARROW has been in the yard of Mike and MerryLynn
Denny in College Place, Walla Walla County, Washington. To see if the
bird is still around and for directions, call Mike at 509-529-0080.

A few more spring arrivals are Cinnamon Teal, White-throated Swift,
Savannah Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, Turkey Vulture, Cliff Swallow.
