Bird Research Assistant Positions
in the Klamath/Siskiyou Mountains and
The Klamath Basin

Southern Oregon University is announcing several research assistant
positions involved with songbird research from mid-April through
October 1999. These positions will be directly involved with landbird
censuses and constant effort mist netting operations across the diverse
habitats of the Klamath/Siskiyou Mountains and The Klamath Bassin.
These opportunities offer unique field research experiences in one of
North America=92s most biologically diverse regions. Assistants will
become familiar with this diverse landscape and the wide spectrum of
songbirds that inhabit the area.

Various opportunities are available, depending on bird identification
skill level. Assistants will conduct bird censuses in various key
habitats and will run constant effort mist netting stations. Assistants
will be responsible for collecting, entering and summarizing data.

enthusiasts and who have the ability to learn local bird identification
(including by song). Computer skills are desired. Applicants should have
competent field skills, the ability to work in rugged terrain and often
adverse weather conditions. Applicants should have a valid drivers
license. Map & compass knowledge, field note taking, good driving
