Hi.

I just spent 8 wonderful days in SE Arizona doing some
birding. The Tucson area and between there and the
border, including Madera Canyon, Tubac, Patagonia Lake
State Park, etc, using the green Lane book, A Birder's
Guide to Southeastern Arizona. Excellent book.

My class will get out on July 2 and I had so much fun
on this trip that I want to do something like that again.
I'm going to be researching this, but I was curious if
anyone had any good suggestions for birding in the US
in July. I don't know if it's realistic, but I would
like to find a place like Tucson, i.e., with good
weather, interesting geography and scenery, great
people, lots of interesting birding, and perhaps some
good things to see and visit when it rains. (It actually
snowed in Tucson on Easter, while I was there. The
local radio stations were just giddy over it.)

I'm afraid that I'm not as interested in water fowl or
seabirds as I should be, so that affects my choice of
where to go. And I am definitely not interested in
going anywhere that it rains much. (This is partly
to restore my sanity, after all.) Renting a 4x4 is
no problem, but I am somewhat limited in how much
hiking I can do, cummulatively; say 2+ miles a day
on average.
