We had 16 birders for our monthly visit to the Kent & Tukwila Ponds on a
perfect day. We had a total of 34 species at Kent Ponds and 18 at Tukwila
Ponds for the morning. We started out with a NORTHERN SHRIKE on the south
side of the power line trail just east of the small mitigation ponds. A few
minutes later we watched a flight of 15-20 Canada Geese flying over the main
ponds with one Ross' goose among them. They landed on the pond shore, but
were out of view from the south tower. We later got a look at the Ross' goose
from the north tower. Other birds of interest at the Kent Ponds were:

4 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Dunlin
2 immature Bald Eagles
3 Northern Harrier - we weren't close enough to see any tags
4 Red-tailed Hawk
1 American Kestrel
1 Common Snipe
4 Common Merganser on the river (2 pair)
Tree and Violet-green Swallows

At Tukwila Ponds we had four species we didn't find at Kent Ponds:
Pied-billed Grebe
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Black-chipped Chickadee
Red-winged Blackbird

>From the Newport Hills P&R before we left, we had:
1 mature Bald Eagle
1 Red-tailed Hawk (there is a nest nearby)
1 Winter Wren (heard)
