First sighting of Savannah Sparrow in SE Lacey neighborhood. My neighbor
Christy Budlong saw a Savannah Sparrow at one of her yard feeders
yesterday, Friday April 9. 1999. Location is just west of Ruddell Road
at 50th Ave SE. Last year there were quite a few Savannahs during the
summer in a Scotch Broom thicket on the field that will become the Lacey
Rainier Vista Sports Park. I walked the "Park" late afternoon Wednesday
and saw none. Was at Nisqually today so havven't checked out the "Park"
since learning today of Christy's sighting. Will take a look tomorrow.
This year Scotch Broom has been cut down. Noted earlier sightings in
Grays Harbor County reported yesterday on Tweeters as well as the first
sighting in Little Rock yesterday.
