Subject: [SEABIRD] field assistant needed in Alaska
Field assistant needed for study of Pigeon Guillemot foraging
ecology and breeding biology in Kachemak Bay, Alaska. Field work
will begin in June 1999 and continue through August. Possibility of
part-time work during fall. Duties to include behavioral observations
and chick provisioning watches, monitoring of nests to determine
reproductive success, weighing and measuring chicks, radio telemetry
study of foraging effort by adults, sampling of near-shore fish
communities by a variety of methods, and data entry.
Qualifications: must have marine boating experience! Knowledge
of basic biological concepts and interest in seabird ecology, good
physical fitness, ability to stay cheerful through long work hours in
bad weather and to get along with others in a field camp setting.
Previous field experience is preferred, as is experience operating
outboard motors and experience with radio telemetry and rappelling
techniques. Mechanical ability a plus. Position includes room and
board, salary of c. US $1950 a month. To apply, send cover letter,
