Today I spent 4 hours birding Discovery Park. The birds were really
enjoying the sun. For a while I watched a pair of Song Sparrows
sit in the top of a modest tree and giving a pretty good imitation
of cedar waxwings, at least in terms of flycatching. They weren't
doing much of the other usual song sparrow things. They were just
sitting on top of that little tree and flying off to apparently
catch bugs and then coming back to sit in top of the tree. I've
never seen this before; is it usual?

P.S. I was also apparently adopted by Br'r Rabbit's younger
brother in the park. If you take the trail towards the south
bluff, and go down the hill by the south gate, and then take
the path that cuts off to the right, diagonally across the
meadow, and then take the branch left about halfway across
the meadow, you may find a very large and lonely brown bunny
rabbit. He comes out from the brambles and sure looks like
he wants company. Eventually I approached it and let it smell
me and finally it let me pet it. When I did that, I could almost
hear a little bunny sigh and see the lids droup. After that
whenever I moved up the trail (50 to 100') and stopped to look at
birds, the bunny would come bounding after me and either sit next to
me til I pet it again, or it would run around my feet and even between
my legs! It sure seems like someone let their pet rabbit loose.
A woman I ran into said it had been there for a couple of weeks
and is sort of a mascot now. If you've always wanted a pet rabbit,
this would seem to be your big chance.
