Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday April 15. If you have anything to add call

A BLUE JAY is now being seen at 3381 Crest Loop Road in North Albany.

The TUFTED DUCK continues to be seen at the Warrenton Sewage Ponds. On
April 10 two WHITE PELICANS were there, but they did not remain.

The main movements of the spring migration begins next week. This week
AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES, PINE SISKINS, and RED CROSSBILLS began moving into
western Oregon.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was on the North Spit of Coos Bay April 13. A
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and a SAY'S PHOEBE were at Darrel Faxon's farm near
Toledo April 9.

The TUFTED PUFFINS are now back on their nesting sites on Haystack Rock
at Cannon Beach.

The BITTERNS and rails are now active at the Cedar Canyon Marsh west of
Banks. The Sauvie Island Wildlife Area opens April 15. There aare still
quite a few geese and SANDHILL CRANES around, but most have moved north.
The two LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS continue to be seen on Mt. Scott in southeast
Portland If interested in seeing these birds contact Tim Janzen at
761-8781. An early NIGHTHAWK was reported April 12 from Oaks Bottom in
southeast Portland.

A group of five COMMON LOONS were on Foster Reservoir near Sweet Home
April 11. A GOLDEN EAGLE was at Finley NWR that day. At least 15,000
DUNLIN were near Brownsville April 13. The two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS are
still being seen along 7 Mile Road west of Lebanon.

YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were back at Fern Ridge Reservoir April 11.
About 100 WESTERN GREBES were on the reservoir that day. The pair of
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS continue to be seen near the Mt. Pisgah east parking
lot area southeast of Eugene. On April 12 a singing CASSIN'S VIREO was
heard nearby.

The BLACK-HEADED WOODPECKERS are still at the burn along Burgess Road
west of LaPine, but the woodpeckers are now decreasing in the area. On
April 11 a group of 15 COMMON LOONS were on Wickiup Reservoir. An adult
MEW GULL was on Upper Klamath Lake April 9.

On April 11 several WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS were at Smith Rocks State Park
and one was at Roaring Springs Ranch south of Frenchglen.

Several thousand SNOW and ROSS'S GEESE are now in the Harney Basin south
of Burns. YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, FRANKLIN'S GULLS, WHITE PELICANS, and
most of the breeding shorebirds are now back at Malheur NWR. A pair of
HOODED MERGANSERS were on the Silvies River north of Burns April 10.
Nearby a CASSIN'S VIREO was seen.
