In case anyone in Washington or BC is interested in a guided birding trip
through the south Okanagan (that is, the southern part of the Canadian
Okanagan) in May...

I will be leading a one-day (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.) birding trip (in a
15-passenger van) starting from Penticton on Saturday, May 22. This trip
will focus on the tremendous breeding bird diversity of the south Okanagan,
and should tally more than 100 species, including Prairie Falcon, Chukar,
Virginia Rail, Long-billed Curlew, Flammulated Owl, N. Pygmy-Owl,
White-throated Swift, Calliope Hummingbird, Lewis's Woodpecker, Williamson's
Sapsucker, Gray Flycatcher, Clark's Nutcracker, Pygmy Nuthatch,
White-breasted Nuthatch, Canyon Wren, Western Bluebird, Yellow-breasted
Chat, Brewer's Sparrow, Bobolink, and more. Cost will be $25 per person,
and includes van transportation from Penticton.

This trip is part of the annual Meadowlark Festival, 21-24 May, which also
includes the Okanagan Big Day Challenge. The Challenge is a 24-hour team
competition on Sunday, May 23 to see how many species you can see in one day
in the Okanagan (Okanogan County WA is included in this area. The winning
total is usually around 160 species (highest total to date is 174). Anyone
