Looked out this morning to see 11 very hungry Brown Headed Cowbirds
devouring the seed. Not great news.
Yesterday hundreds of scoters congregated off the beach and then
disappeared.
This morning lots of Barrow's Goldeneyes out there. Various scattered other
birds.
A couple of weeks ago we heard a tapping when on our morning walk and
investigated a bit and we have a pileated nesting along the bank above the
beach. Caught a quick look this morning and it seems to be sitting now. It
is about 30 feet up a dead alder and the bank is at least 25 feet high . If
you know where to look it can be seen easily from the road.
We have the odd rufous hummingbird male coming so far. The juncos are still
around but thinning as are the Stellers Jays. White Crowned sparrows have
turned up too.
We seem to have many Bald Eagles around this year.
Lovely time of year.
